GT08 – Breede River Valley
Worcester, capital of the Breede River Valley (Broad River Valley) is surrounded by impressive mountains and verdant valleys. It is the main gateway to the north on the N1 and cannot be missed.
Depart Cape Town early along the N1. Stop on top of the DuToitskloof Mountain Pass for views of the Paarl and Franschhoek Valleys as far as Table Mountain. Tea-break at Du Toitskloof Resort overlooking the river and mountain backdrop. Enter the Breede River Valley at Rawsonville and cross the tributaries of this river a few times. Drive through this interesting town. Worcester boasts with several institutions for The Hearing Impaired, Visually Impaired, Colleges and Techikons. This was the first town to introduce audible signals at traffic lights for blind people.
Visit the Kleinplasie Living Open Air Farm Museum. Taste our Witblits, a potent alcoholic spirits, and freshly baked open-oven bread. Optional wine tasting at KWV. Visit the Karoo Botanical Gardens. From August to September the succulent gardens abound with spring flowers. Return to Cape Town via the beautiful Bain’s Kloof Pass.
