GT153 Garden Route and Addo Elephant adventure (5days)

Day 1 – Monday The Little Karoo
Depart Cape Town and leave a bustling  city. Travel over Du Toitskloof Pass and enter the Breede (broad) River Valley. Visit the Kleinplasie Open Air Museum and sample their homemade bread and Witblits (spirits). Worcester is well known for its many institutions – Goeie Hoop School for the deaf, School and training Centre for the Visually Impaired, etc. Continue through the rose towns of Robertson and Ashton. Enter the Little Karoo, a dry and arid country wedged between the Outeniqua and Swartberg Mountains. Optional lunch at The Country Pumpkin a famous restauramt in the Karoo. Arrive in Oudtshoorn, capital of the Ostrich Feather Industry, take a stroll in town. Visit an Ostrich Show Farm for an educational tour. Touch and ride the biggest bird in the world. Dinner at the Ostrich farm

Day 2 – Tuesday The Garden Route and Tsitsikamma
After an early morning breakfast, we depart for the Cango Caves, one of our country’s greatest natural wonders. These caves have been sculptured by nature throughout the ages. Guided tour of the Cango caves. Visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch for an exciting experience and inter-action with the Big Cats (optional extra). Drive through Oudtshoorn.  Continue over the Outeniqua Mountains and stop at the Four-passes viewpoint before descending into George. Enter the famous Garden Route. This route takes you on an unforgettable journey through mountain forests, across lakes and rivers. Cruise through Knysna, the no.1 tourist town in South Africa, and the most popular town along the Garden Route. Arrive at Tsitsikamma late afternoon. Barbeque dinner at Tsistsikamma. DLBB

Day 3 – Wednesday Addo Elephants and The Eastern Cape
After a self-prepared breakfast, we leave take an early walk through Milkwood forests and across the suspension bridge at the Storms River Mouth.  Continue from Tsistsikamma further into the Eastern Cape to Port Elizabeth Arrive at Addo Elephant National Park for an afternoon game drive (self) in search of the Mammoth Gentle Giants. Take a walk in the Spekboom forests. Addo boasts with a herd of 450 elephants, lions, buffalo, kudu and several species of antelope and birds. Return to camp to rest. Barbeque dinner. Optional night drive in an open vehicle. Watch elephants, foxes, buffaloes, and other nocturnal animals’ drinking water at a floodlit dam at the main camp.

Overnight Addo (DBB)

 Day 4 – Thursday The Garden Route
Early morning self-drive in search of the big game at Hap-oor Dam in search of the elephants and lions. Return to camp for self-prepared breakfast. After a late breakfast, we leave Addo and return to Port Elizabeth. This city bears the legacy of being an area where the first British, Boer, German, and Xhosa people clashed. Watch adrenaline junkies jump off the Bloukrans Bridge, highest bungi jump off a bridge in the world. Optional bungi-jumping. Travel across breath-taking gorges through Nature’s Valley to Plettenberg Bay. Take a walk in the forest to the Big Tree. Arrive in Knysna. Take a scenic drive to The Heads with a panoramic view of the Knysna Lagoon, one of the country’s largest estuaries, where it channels into the Indian Ocean.  Take a sunset cruise on the lagoon.

Day 5 – Friday The Overberg
After breakfast we take the N2 to Cape Town Stop at the Dolphin Lookout Point at Wilderness to spot dolphins and hopefully early whales. Visit the Diaz Museum complex, commemorating the arrival of the Portuguese more than 500 years at the Mossel Bay. Board the replica of the caravelle used on this epic journey. Visit an Aloe factory in Albertinia to do a tour of the factory and sample their products. Travel through the Overberg to Cape Town. Arrive late afternoon.
